How to Create a Time Block

How Existence gives structure to your time

Written by Clayton Porter

While there are many ways to create Time Blocks you have experienced before, this is a guide on how to create a new Time Block from, one you may not have lived before.

How to create a new Time Block

There are three different ways to create a Time Block from the Blocks page.

Option 1 Click on an open time slot where you want to create a Time Block. You can drag your cursor to fill the entire length of the experience or just select part of it, adjusting the exact time once you finalize the Time Block.

Within the Add Time Block pop-up enter a Title for the block, something that speaks to what you'll be doing, where, and who you are with.

You'll see predictive suggestions, based on your synced calendar or previous blocks you've created. You can always choose one of those past Titles if they are a fit.

Press Enter.

Option 2 The plus sign with a circle on the top left of the Blocks page will create a new Time Block. Click on it and you'll see the Time Block creation view appear.

Option 3 Pressing the C key on the Blocks page is your keyboard shortcut to create a new Time Block. Within profile and Settings you can review if keyboard shortcuts are enabled as well as see all keyboard shortcut options.

Once a Time Block creation view appears you will see predictive suggestions appear for details like Pillar, Activity and People based on your Title and past Time Blocks.

It's not required to enter in all the detail options, but the more data you include in a Time block the better Existence will be at revealing how your time is spent.

Confirm suggestions or add the these details of your experience:

  • The date, start time, and end time.

  • Set a repeat option if this is a recurring experience

  • Pillar.

  • Activity tag, multiple tags can be added. Click the arrow to see more options or create your own.

  • People. Select an existing person, or type a new name and fill in quick details to create one inline.

  • Add a Place. This can be a custom name like "Favorite Coffeeshop," it doesn't need to match the official business name.

  • Add a Description if you want more context to the Time Block separate from a reflection, which captures how the time was lived. This field also syncs with event descriptions within Google Calendar.

  • Choose where this block should show: Existence only, or one of your synced calendars with Full Access permission.

Click Save.

The block is now on your calendar, ready to capture all the dimensions of your time.

Your Title matters more than you think

The Title field isn't just a label.

Existence uses it the way a prompt is used with an AI assistant: it's the main signal behind your pillar suggestion, your activity tag suggestions, and how well predictive suggestions work for you going forward.

A vague title like "Thing" or "Call" gives Existence very little to work with. A specific title like "Chatting with Scott at Gym" gives it enough context to auto-fill Pillar, Activity, People, and Place all at once.

Take a few extra seconds on the Title. It can save you clicks on everything else.

What happens after you create a Time Block

Once a block is created, it will sit on your calendar until you've lived the experience and its time to account for your time by adding dimension. Click into the Time Block to rate your Energy, add a Reflection, Attach Media and confirm all the details remained as planned.
