A calendar can tell you what you did and when. It cannot tell you what any of it meant. Two hours blocked as "Team Meeting" looks the same whether it energized you or wore you down, whether it moved your work forward or just moved your day forward.
That gap between what happened and what it felt like is exactly what Existence is built to close, adding your Energy and Reflections are the two habits that close it.
Energy
Rating your Energy is not rating how awake or tired you are.
It is a measurement of the quality of a Time Block, rated from 0 to 10 after that time has been lived. Zero to 4.9 is negative, five to ten is positive, and the question behind the number is simple: how good was this block of time?
While Energy Rating measures the qualify of your time, Emotion labels give that rating more context. Adding multiple emotions allows you to also express the nuance and ambivalent feelings that can exist within a single Time Block, or single Energy rating.
Ex: You planned a surprise party for your parent's 40th anniversary, during it you felt Anxiety, Overwhelmed and Joy all at once. Capture all of those emotions in your Energy Rating.
A single Energy rating on its own does not tell you much. Rate one coffee with a friend a 9 and it is just a nice afternoon. But rate every coffee with that friend, every Monday standup, every solo workout, every dinner with family, and a pattern starts to surface that no calendar could ever show you: which people consistently raise your energy and which quietly drain it, which activities you keep doing out of habit even though they rate low every time, which parts of your week look full but feel empty. That pattern is only visible with volume, and volume only comes from consistency.
This is why rating relative to your own expectations and rating honestly, not aspirationally, matters more than rating perfectly. A ten-day streak of honest 6s tells Existence more than one inflated 10.
Reflections
Reflections work alongside Energy to capture what your time meant, what stood out, what you learned and what you want to remember--depth a number can't reflect.
A Reflection is written, in your own words, after a Time Block is lived.
One sentence is enough. "Needed this coffee alone after a heavy week of evening events" is a complete Reflection.
It takes ten seconds to write and it captures something your calendar was never designed to keep: not just that the coffee happened, but why it mattered, and what state you were in when you needed it.
Over weeks and months, these small entries stop being isolated notes and start becoming a searchable record of your actual life, the kind you could ask your own Existence AI Assistant about later.
Input "tell me about the time I've spent with my son this year" and get back something real instead of a list of calendar event titles.
Energy tells Existence what mattered in terms of quality. Reflections tell it why. Together, rated and written consistently, they turn a calendar full of blocks into an actual record of how you spent your life, not just where you were standing when the clock ran.
The value of Energy and Reflections does not require perfection.
It requires the small, repeated act of tapping the Energy icon or typing one honest sentence, over and over, until the record is big enough to tell you something you could not have seen in the moment. The habit is the point as much as the data is.
Every Time Block you rate and reflect on is one more piece of evidence about how you actually want to spend the time you have left, and that evidence only exists if you build it, while living it, one block at a time.
