New: Shared and Additional Google Calendars in Existence

Written by Clayton Porter

When you connect a Google account, Existence now shows every calendar inside that account, not just your primary one. That includes additional calendars you’ve created or calendars other people have shared with you.

Existence lets you make the call for each calendar: whether it shows up in Existence at all, whether its events count toward your Insights, or is it all just for visibility.

Where to manage your additional calendars

Click your profile icon in the top right corner and select Calendar Connections. You can also get there from the Manage button in the Time Design Panel

Click into one of your connected primary Google calendars, you will see options for additional secondary or shared calendars.

Every Calendar can be adjusted

Connect: the calendar’s events appear in Existence so you can see them while Accounting for your time. Just connecting an additional calender does not count toward your reported time, your Pillar breakdowns, your Insights, or your AI Assistant summaries.

Included in Insights: A seperate action, click the three dots and select the option for Include in Insights. The calendar’s events become part of your time. They count toward your Pillars and Insights, and the AI Assistant draws from them.

A calendar can appear in the list without being connected. If it is not connected, its events won’t show up or be accounted for in Existence.

About the View Only badge

A View Only badge means Existence can read events on that calendar but can’t add or edit them. Access is set at the primary account level. If you connected a primary Google account with View only access, every calendar in that account will be view only as well. To create or edit Time Blocks on those calendars, the primary account needs Full Access.

A calendar someone shared with you may also show as View Only if you only have permission to see it in Google.

How these events look on your Existence Blocks page

Events from calendars that aren’t in Insights appear slightly transparent, with a solid stripe along the side. That’s your signal that the event is there for visibility and isn’t counting toward your record.

You’ll notice these events still carry a Pillar color. Existence assigns a Pillar to them so if you decide to include the calendar in Insights later, the Time Block is already sorted and ready.

To show or hide calendars while you work, click the calendar icon in the bottom left of the Blocks page. This opens the sidebar with your calendar list expanded, and you can toggle each calendar on or off.

Hiding a calendar here only changes what’s on your screen. It doesn’t disconnect the calendar or change whether it’s included in Insights.

Counting a single event without including the whole calendar

Sometimes one event on a shared calendar is time you actually spent, like a family dinner on your partner’s calendar. You can bring just that event into your record without including the entire calendar.

Right-click the event and select Copy to Existence. You can also open the event and switch its calendar to Existence at the top of the event.

If the event is part of a recurring series, only the single event you copied comes over.

Disconnecting a calendar

To stop seeing a calendar in Existence, open Calendar Connections, find the calendar, and remove it. You’ll see the same confirmation you’d get when removing your primary calendar.

In this article, additional calendars means any Google calendar on your account beyond your primary one.

That includes:

  • Secondary calendars: calendars you’ve created yourself, like one for a side project or your workouts.

  • Shared calendars: calendars someone else owns and has shared with you, like a partner’s family calendar or a team calendar.

  • Subscribed calendars: calendars you follow, like holidays.
